Mobile App Review: MapMyRide

Mobile App Review: MapMyRide

MapMyRide LogoThere are many workout tracking applications on the market and just about as many tracking applications specifically for cyclists, yet MapMyRide is, in my opinion, the best available. Because I’m a huge fan and therefore maybe a little biased, let’s get the cons out of the way first: the price. Although there is a free version of MapMyRide that is very helpful and informative of your route and time, the paid version ranges in cost from $29-99 per year. However, it is very extensive and can do just about anything and everything you could ever imagine a cycling application to do.

MapMyRide has the most extensive route creation toolset on the market, which gives the user the ability to plan a whole ride before they even get off the couch. Also, any map or route you create through the application is exportable and shareable with others or to GPS for your own personal use. The on-screen map and statistical views are fantastic and very easy to read. MapMyRide can tell you the distance and time of the route, elevation gain and climb ratings all on one screen. Also, there are hundreds upon hundreds of routes that have already been created by existing MapMyRide users there for the choosing. So if you’re ever late or low on time simply pick a route that suits your abilities and give it a try.

MapMyRide also includes a calendar that helps to keep complete track of miles and calories burnt as well as food logs, nutrition stats, and a nutrition calculator in-app. Stay connected with your friends and fellow riders as you can share stories and photos with friends and groups. If you have a bit of a competitive edge try the search bar to look up local races and rides to take part in.

MapMyRide is available on iPhone, Android and Blackberry, so there will be no disappointment when you go looking for the application on your device. If you’re not a cyclist, MapMyRide’s parent company, MapMyFitness, also has additional versions for walkers, hikers, runners and even tri-athletes! Again, in my opinion this is the most extensive and best overall application of its kind and I would recommend it to anyone in the fitness world.
