YouTube and Your Business - Going Gangnam Style

YouTube and Your Business - Going Gangnam Style

CINCINNATI! OP! OP! OP! OP! OP! OPPA GANGNAM STYLE!

What a way to make a mark!  This video, the famous “Gangnam Style” by South Korean artist PSY, has already had over half a billion views. Until this video happened, most of the world was unaware of who PSY was. Now, he’s been all over the American talk show circuit and his song is everywhere from clubs to reality TV.

How does this relate to you and your business?  Well, it might be time to see what YouTube can do for you. As a business, you can create a branded YouTube channel, create and upload videos you have selected that show off your products, expertise, or knowledge in your given area.  You can add links or information about your social media sites and other relevant content you have created.  Because YouTube is owned by Google, you can boost your SEO significantly by uploading videos relevant to your business and titling and tagging them properly. In fact, not everything has to be a typical video – shot on a camera with live people.  I have seen PowerPoint presentations with audio that have a high number of views. In the screenshot below, the circled area is a video result that comes up on the first page of Google’s organic search for the term “Inbound Marketing”.  This could be your business on the results page of terms related to your products and services.

Again, do everything you can to make your video easily found.  Thumbnails, tags, and keywords that are to the topic your video covers will help you get views.  Youtube is also a community: so engage with others, make comments, find likeminded individuals, and show your presentation skills.  You can even upload video responses to videos in your industry.

Adding a “call to action” to your videos may be helpful, such as directing people to the website where they can purchase a particular product.

Adding a Call-to-Action overlay to your video is easy. First, run a campaign to promote your video on YouTube. Then, go to the Video Details page under My Videos(you must have a channel for this button to work) and fill out the fields in the section marked "Call-to-Action overlay." All you have to do is include a short headline, ad text, a destination url, and upload an optional image, and the overlay will appear whenever someone watches your video. Clicks on the overlay will be tracked in YouTube Insight. (Youtube Biz Blog article)

If all else fails, add kittens and puppies to your videos for a little bit of Cat-Vertising power…
